Coaching

What my method comes down to.

The solution focus gives the sessions their frame: we work in partnership, and we build the road to change together. We start from what already works, and keep our attention on the next small step. Compassionate Inquiry, Dr Gábor Máté's method, gives me the way I attend to you: curious, patient and without judgement, to the whole person rather than only to the goal. On the strength of my experience in healthcare and research my work rests on scientific foundations, and I start from the premise that physical and mental wellbeing are closely connected.

Solution focus

We build on what already works.

Solution-focused coaching is a method born out of practice. For years researchers and therapists watched what actually helps people. They kept only what really brought change, and let the rest go. What emerged is a simple, targeted approach that does not build on complicated explanations, but on what already works in people's lives.

  • We spend most of the time on what you want, not on the problem.
  • Your own resources are the raw material — not my advice.
  • We measure progress in small, noticeable steps that you choose.
  • Deliberately short. Fewer sessions is a good result.

Compassionate Inquiry

And we make room for what is hard.

Hard situations from the past often shape our decisions, our reactions and our relationships today without our noticing, and at times they leave their mark on our bodies too. Compassionate Inquiry examines those connections with curiosity and compassion: what lived experience may lie behind a recurring reaction, lasting stress or burnout. Understanding that can help us keep the past from limiting us, and treat others and ourselves better. From Dr Gábor Máté's method I also learned how to raise children without burdening them unnecessarily, and I practise that with my own children day to day. I work in a trauma-informed way: I take into account that earlier burdening experiences can still affect us today. So with me safety comes first: you decide what you share, how much, and when.

Healthcare background

We lean on what is evidenced

My experience in healthcare lets me understand questions connected to your state of health, and find the way through the often contradictory information about health. I recognise when a question calls for medical investigation, and in that case I refer you to the right professional. That foundation gives the safety we need to move forward together on nutrition, a change of lifestyle, handling stress or building new routines.

When change moves faster than you can keep up with

If you keep running into the same thing again and again, or you are finding it hard to settle into a new situation, we build on what is already working. Along the way your emotional awareness, your flexibility and your confidence grow, and change starts to feel like room to move rather than a threat.

Feeling well for the long run, with routines that fit your days

You know you should do something about the stress, the sleep, the exercise or the food, and somehow it still doesn't happen? That is not only a matter of willpower. We look for the small steps that genuinely fit your life, so they can become routines you keep.

Everyday life with your children: calmer, and closer to one another

If everyday life with the children, the conflicts at home or your own tiredness is wearing you down, you are not alone. In a safe, non-judgemental space you can think about how to communicate differently with your children, and about what you need as a parent.

What people usually ask...

How many sessions will I need?

Honestly: at the start I don't know, and anyone who names a number before meeting you is guessing. Solution-focused work is deliberately short — often a few sessions. After each one we look at whether the next is worth your time.

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Roughly: therapy often works on healing and on diagnosable conditions, usually with more attention to the past. Coaching deals with the step in front of you. If it turns out while we work together that therapy would suit you better, I will say so and help you look.

I don't have one clear problem. Is that a reason not to come?

No — that is one of the most common starting points. “Something has slipped, and I can't name it” is a perfectly good start. Naming it is often the first piece of work.

Is online as good as meeting in person?

In my experience, for this kind of conversation it is. Many of my clients live in one country and think in another; online simply suits that.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes. What is said in a session stays between the two of us.
